JP's handicapping approach relies primarily on Thoro-Graph performance figures, a tool he believes provides the most accurate read on a horse's true performance. He also factors in race shape, workout reports and trip handicapping. A firm believer that ticket construction is just as important as handicapping itself, JP spends equal time crafting his wagers as he does analyzing the races.

We had a great day at Del Mar yesterday! Our longshot/Trifecta play of the day, Flashiest, came in 2nd at 40/1. The recommended wager was a $5 Exacta 7 - 2 which paid $355.65. The suggested Trifecta play paid just under $200.. We also had the $3 Late Pick 3 and $5 Late Daily Double. On to Saturday's card.

Del Mar - $3 Late Pick 3

The Penultimate card of the Bing Crosby Meet at Del Mar. We have had lots of success on the player friendly wagers at Del Mar ($3 Late Pick 3 and $5 Late Pick 5). Let's hope we can find another longshot that wins it to spice up the exotics.
Race 9: A) 4,3 B) 2,8,1
This is going to be a great Hollywood Derby, I think #4 Salamis is poised for a lifetime top. Chad Brown rarely sends horses out West, this one gets a nice post after a horrible trip out of the 12 post 5 weeks ago. #3 Test Score is the deserving favorite and runs his race every time. I think Salamis might have enough upside to edge out Test Score. #2 Friendly Confines will take this group as far as he can go. Watch out for #8 Tempus Volat and #1 Maaz, who could get into the exotics to spice up the payouts.
Race 10: A) 7 B) 1,6,8,10,9
#7 Madaket Road lays over this field. I think everyone else is running for second. #1 Speedy Wilson had his best race at 7 furlongs and appears to be circling back to another top effort. #6 Wayne the Brain is also circling back to a top effort, but both 'Wayne and 'Wilson can have top efforts and still not likely beat the favorite. #8 Mescalero is interesting at a price. This Mandella trained horse is working great and is making his all important 3rd lifetime start. #10 and #9 both come out of the same race on Breeder's Cup day and ran second and third respectively at big numbers. I would like them more if they were drawn inside.
Race 11: A) 2,11,7 B) 4,6
The nightcap on Saturday feels like a race to take a shot at a price. #2 Uncle Happy has a great post and pattern looks like this 4 year old gelding is poised for a top effort. I think Herrera sits behind Mongolian Apple and #11 Hiding in Honduras, who might be able to hang on. He is making the all important 3rd start of his career, this 3 year old gelding is poised for a good effort. #7 One of These Days gets back on Lasix and retains Hernandez. #4 Lyle The Crocodlle came running last time and will likely do the same but is too short of a price. #6 Final Edition had a great race last time, he needs to improve to get a piece.
